The U.S. Mint in San Francisco is responsible for producing clad and silver proof coin sets as well as commemorative coins. The facility is divided into different production areas with specialized machinery and robotic equipment, unique to each operation. These activities are housed in a 90-year-old building with security at the forefront.
KFDE has been responsible for several successful projects at the U.S. Mint including both Studies and Design services in Architecture, Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical Engineering. Each one offers unique challenges to balance the needs of the high-performance operations with phasing to minimize costly disruption to production. Examples of these projects include:
