An existing multi-story building added one department which needed to function 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From an energy standpoint, running the main boilers and all associated equipment 24/7 when most of the building was occupied only during normal working hours, didn’t make sense. KFDE was retained to provide an Energy Analysis of the complete HVAC system to determine the most practical and cost-effective way to serve the 24/7 area.
An initial Energy Analysis comparison was modeled using eQuest DOE to compare the two HVAC options to separate the 24/7 spaces (approx. 10,000 sq. ft.) from the Main Building.
- Option 1 – Air Cooled Chiller with Integral Chilled Water Pumps and 4-Pipe Fan Coils with complete DDC Controls and Hot Water Reheat Coils
- Option 2 – Skid-mounted Fluid Cooler and Pumps to serve Water Source Heat Pumps
Based on the findings of eQuest Energy Analysis, we proceeded to full design of a dedicated HVAC system to serve the 24/7 departments of the building.
