This was a multidisciplinary peer review of construction documents for the renovation of an intensive care unit at a main hospital facility. The scope consisted of a systematic review of drawings and specifications to verify conformance with commonly accepted industry standards, applicable codes, and client design standards. A comment check list was developed identifying by discipline each specific drawing and specification paragraph that needed to be revised, corrected, or addressed by the design firm who prepared the bid documents.
While most items found were minor, a few would have had an undesirable outcome as it relates to life safety or function if left unaddressed. After the design firm made corrections needed, a back-check effort by us ensured to the client that all issues had been addressed. The result was a set of construction documents that not only avoided costly change orders, or AHJ citations, but that also met code as well as the facility's unique standards.
