This multi-million dollar renovation upgraded the entire mechanical and electrical infrastructure of the campus, including complete replacement of the chilled water plant. The existing plant was inadequate to support the current demands of the campus and several new buildings were in the planning stages. We analyzed the current and future loads and increased the plant capacity by installing a new 430-ton water cooled chiller and a new cooling tower with condenser water pumps and chilled water pumps (primary and secondary). The new system was designed to seamlessly tie into the existing system for additional redundancy and capacity for the future growth. Design features included:
- Provided a new 430-ton Water Cooled Centrifugal Chiller along with new Secondary Distribution Pumps with Variable Frequency Drives and new chiller pump.
- Designed a new 2,500 square foot chiller building to house new equipment and allow for one maintenance operator.
- Design of a new Cooling Tower and structural supports.
The complete design package also included architectural design for a new maintenance office within the plant, electrical design for power supplies to all new equipment, and civil design services.
