PAVE PAWS is a National Security Critical Radar System with a complex electrical system which must maintain a reliable power system. Over time, like many facilities, they had made minor changes to their system and equipment and had reached a point where there was no reliable as-built information on the system equipment or its’ operation. Coupled with this, much of the equipment had reached the end of its useful life and was in need of replacement.
KFDE commenced this project with extensive site work to as-build the entire 480V electrical distribution system resulting in over 25 Electrical Single Line Diagrams to represent this work. After thorough review of all of field documentation, records and drawing compilation, the Air Force adopted this database for all future work at this facility. The design then focused on how to sequentially update and replace the main switchgear, circuit breakers, control schemes and all associated equipment. Great time and thought was given to how any existing cabinets could be retrofitted to fit new equipment, phasing and construction staging. We completed the project by providing a final Coordination Study, Fault Current Analysis, Arc Flash Survey and Labelling.
